Primus — mobile app for alarm monitoring

PrimLINK, an iOS and Android app that surfaces a site’s alarms in real time — critical notifications, history and user management — powered by the WBox gateway.

The context

Primus operates and monitors technical sites where any alarm — fire, emergency call, critical fault — must be handled without delay. Until now, those alarms stayed locked inside the panels installed on site: to know what was happening you had to stand in front of the board or wait for a phone call. Primus wanted to give its teams and its clients a mobile, immediate and reliable view of alarm status, wherever they are.

The need

Four requirements stood out:

  • A real-time feed of field alarms into a native mobile app, on iOS as well as Android.
  • Critical push notifications delivered immediately, even when the app is closed — an alarm must never go unnoticed.
  • A complete time-stamped history of alarms and acknowledgements, viewable and exportable for follow-up and audit.
  • User and group management: who receives which alarm, on which site, with which rights.

The solution deployed

Application Primus PrimLINK — écrans de connexion, accueil et alarmes

At the core of the setup, a WBox S103 gateway — deployed as an OEM version, integrated directly into the Primus installation — collects alarms from the on-site equipment, normalises them and forwards them to the PrimLINK mobile app. Several Weble building blocks assembled to specification:

  • Zettler Driver — connection to Zettler fire-detection and alarm panels; every event from the panel is captured in real time.
  • ESPA 4.4.4 Driver — integrates paging and nurse-call systems built on the ESPA 4.4.4 standard.
  • API REST Driver — exposes the consolidated alarms to the mobile app over a secure API; it is the bridge between the gateway and the smartphones.
  • Remote Access Module — secure tunnel linking every deployed WBox to the Primus infrastructure, with no inbound port to open on the client side.

The PrimLINK app then owns the user experience: critical push notifications — which even bypass the phone’s “Do Not Disturb” mode to guarantee delivery —, a time-stamped history feed, alarm acknowledgement and user/group administration, all fed by a single gateway, whatever the mix of protocols present on site.

The benefit

  • Responsiveness: site alarms reach the right people in real time, in their pocket, with critical notifications that cannot be missed.
  • Traceability: every alarm and acknowledgement is time-stamped and logged, ready for follow-up and audit.
  • Organisation: group and user management ensures the right message reaches the right team, on the right site.
  • Protocol independence: Zettler, ESPA 4.4.4 and other systems are aggregated by a single gateway, with no extra proprietary hardware.
